Bee, aged 21 – Dance Instructor
“It was an amazing experience. It changes the way you view life; it was very moving to see how people living on the poverty line deal with life in such a positive manner. It was indeed a life changing experience.”

David L’Herroux – U.K. Director of ‘Book of Hope’
“It was an experience of a life time. I wish I had done it 25 years ago! It was an eye-opener; whatever I’ve seen or heard on TV does not do justice to it. I gained a better understanding of what Tim and Ceri went through while living there. I learned more about the work of missions in that country, as well as the Compassion Africa project.”

Tara Rogers Co-Director of ‘Rhema Arts’
“The trip was a fantastic time of getting to know different people and schools. It was an opportunity to see the difference between life in the UK and Sierra Leone. There were up to 50 children of mixed ages and abilities in a class! It shows you how privileged we are in the UK. I gained an awareness of how the people love God, and worship Him with such joy and happiness. They are so friendly and loving, in spite of all they’ve been through. It was a very emotional time for me to go back to Makump village, the place where I used to live with my parents (Tim and Ceri); it had changed so much due to the war.”

October saw a group of nine people travelling to Sierra Leone. We stayed in Freetown for 11 days during which time we made various trips to visit plots of land, schools, churches, other voluntary agencies, and a very memorable and emotional day up-country in Makump village, where Tim and Ceri worked for 5 years before the civil war.

It was a great time to renew friendships, meet new friends and “adopt” other children who were desperate for care.
